Caring For Our Community

History

In 1989, a Gaston County community-based indigent care task force composed of concerned citizens, business leaders, elected local officials, and representatives of Gaston Memorial Hospital, was formed to address the need of the growing uninsured population and the use of episodic emergency department care as an inappropriate substitute for primary care.  The group was concerned with providing the right care at the right time, at the right place.  The result was the establishment of Gaston Family Health Services (GFHS) with a mission to provide family healthcare to anyone in need, regardless of ability to pay.  With technical assistances from the North Carolina Office of Rural Health, GFHS was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1991.  GFHS saw its first patients in 1992 at the practice co-located within Gaston County Health Department building on Hudson Blvd. in Gastonia.

Today, our team of family medicine physicians, pediatricians, advanced practice providers, dentists, psychologists and behavioral health providers care for patients at over 30 practices throughout  Alexander, Catawba, Cleveland,Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg and Randolph counties.
